With all the economic turmoil going on, I found myself asking, “what’s great about America?” I Googled exactly those words, and this very interesting article by an Indian immigrant now American citizen, Dinesh D’Souza came up. Dinesh says, “The immigrant is in a good position to evaluate American society because he is able to apply a comparative perspective. Having grown up in a different society—in my case, Mumbai, India—I am able to identify aspects of America that are invisible to people who have always lived here.”No, doubt, Dinesh, many of the things that you mention regarding why America is so great are taken for granted by Americans, because we know no different unless we have spent time in other countries. Thank you for your fresh perspective. Read the entire article here…

CIT is probably the largest lending institution hardly anyone seems to have heard of. It is not a bank with branches on every corner like, Bank of America or Citibank. However, it is a very large lender to small and medium size businesses. According to last Monday’s Wall Street Journal, CIT is a lender to [...]
According to a report cited in yesterday’s Wall Street Journal, China has geared up its ability to steal valuable technology data over the Internet. “…Chinese cyberspies who in total steal $40 to $50 billion in intellectual property from U.S. organizations yearly…” according to a source cited in the article. China and Iran are birds of a feather. It is not about doing the right thing or making the world a better place. It is about money, politics, and most of all power for both these tyrants. According to data released this morning from the government’s Bureau of Labor Statistics, the economy lost another 263,000 jobs in September, meaning over 15 million people are officially unemployed. However, the official unemployment rate underestimates the reality, because it excludes numerous people who have given up looking for work, been unemployed for […]

I want to pause in the midst of the much needed debate about climate change solutions, as I do every December 2nd -3rd to remember Bhopal. Last night was the 25th anniversary of the disaster in Bhopal, India, where a Union Carbide pesticide plant released 27 tons of toxic chemical into a crowded sleeping city, [...]
Now that’s a discussion! On blogs and listserves, in living rooms and classrooms around the country today, people are talking about, debating, and yes, critiquing our new short film. We made The Story of Cap & Trade to encourage a real discussion about how to solve the enormous climate challenges we face. [...]
If you’re like me, an increasing amount of your worries these days focus on the rising levels of CO2 in the atmosphere and the resulting potential for devastating climate chaos. Years ago, when I first heard about climate change, I figured someone else would work all that out while I kept plodding away with my work on [...]
Those of us in the U.S. are wrapping up our work weeks today to spend tomorrow with friends and family, gathered around big home cooked meals and giving thanks. Yes, I know that the history of this particular holiday is not nearly as charming as our children’s schoolbooks portray, but for many, the gathering isn’t about [...]
